NAFTA passed during Bush Sr.’s term was meant to only open free trading with Canada and Mexico. It was increased to include the entire world during Clinton’s term. This lead to outsourcing American jobs because we cannot complete with the slave wages paid in other countries to produce goods. On news programs it is stated that stopping open trading will cause huge inflation in everything we buy and probably war with China because we have given them our entire economy (jobs, off shore savings for businesses to avoid income tax and then loan that money to us in mortgages and credit cards, manufacturing goods, our resources tax free, etc…) . Doesn’t this kind of mean that we just reinvented slavery only out sourced to other countries? By having untaxed open trading with countries that do not have labor laws aren’t we creating huge gaps between their rich and poor that eventually will lead to America owing and looking for an international welfare system to pay for the poverty we created?

If America is so anti-slavery, why are we not imposing sanctions on countries that do not have labor laws?
Ginger: currently children and women are sold for both sex and slavery internationally. Have you considered reading up on this? It is as bad as ever and it is just as sad.
Actress: If unable to read and write, why choose questions out of your league? Yo cut’ jes peek odder toopicks?
Maybe I should have asked this a different way. Is there a Presidential candidate who will promise to stop legislation that promotes outsourcing our jobs, and stop dealing with countries that have no labor laws and/or do nothing to stop current slavery?

I’m a sophomore in high school, and I attend one of the most competitive international schools in the world. In freshman year, my GPA averaged out to be a 3.5, and I played two sports, but I didn’t make varsity for either. This year, my grades aren’t as good as I hoped, but by the end of the year (semester 2) I think it will also averaged out to a 3.5 or around, even though my semester 1 GPA wasn’t stellar (about a B / B+ average). But my extracurriculars are pretty good:
~ I’m in the school newspaper, and I’m going to be editor-in-chief next year.
~ I’m in my school’s creative arts magazine, and submit my own writing regularly.
~ I’m going to be in my school’s advanced singing group next year (and attend competitions).
~ I’m in varsity debate / speech (and attend competitions).
~ I’m the vice president of our school charity club, and I’m going to be president in the middle of my junior year. I’m also involved in another charity group, and plan to have a leadership position
~ I’m in a Chinese journalism group (I’m bilingual).

The summer after freshman year I interned at one of the most prestigious law firms in NYC and traveled, and this summer I plan to do an intensive language program in Europe studying a foreign language. During this year’s spring break, I’m going to volunteer in a rural part of China.

I know that grades are incredibly important in the admissions process, and I have two more years to improve them, and my goal GPA for my junior and senior years is a 3.7 – 3.8. I’m just worried that due to my average GPA in freshman and sophomore year, I’m not going to have a chance.

The schools that I plan to apply to are Princeton, Columbia, Dartmouth, U. Penn, Amherst, Williams, Georgetown, Vassar, Wellesley, Wesleyan, NYU, Northwestern, University of Chicago, and a few others.
My mom is an alumna from one of the Ivies, so that might help me just a bit, but I definitely need an improvement in my grades.

Do you think I have a chance? What are your thoughts?

Two extra q’s if you have the time:
1) Is it truly necessary that one play sports? I do enjoy sports and keep active, but it’s time-consuming and I wouldn’t have time to do the other activities that mean more to me.
2) They say that freshman, sophomore, and junior year are what gets you into college, and senior year is what keeps you there, so I don’t think it’ll be easy considering that my freshman and sophomore years, grade-wise, isn’t top notch.

I’ve also played the piano for 5 years, and I plan to graduate from level 9 (highest) by the end of senior year. The thing is with piano is that you can’t play it in my school’s band or orchestra, so you can’t really take it outside of a lesson.

***I posted this question a few days ago, but I didn’t get many replies. Thanks for your help!
Oh, and I’m going to be a junior next year and will have the option of pursuing a full IB (International Baccalaureate) diploma. The full IB diploma is pretty consuming and I would have to do a lot of additional work. Or I could just take the same courseload without doing the extra essay, and that would give me more time to "diffrentiate" myself from other applicants, and spend time doing the things I love.

I’m really unsure though. If you have any advice, it would be great!

these toy recalls are getting out of control and insane! there has to be a representative we can email or a petition to sign- SOMETHING. the cheap labor in china has to STOP! we can’t even buy our kids toys anymore without waiting some odd months to give them to them because we have to wait to see if there’s going to be a recall. what kind of action are we supposed to take to make laws if the government is not going to start on their own?
if you don’t know the answer…please don’t leave one….
"Say >say tay<" or whatr ever your name is i’m sorry your daughter was poisoned by lead in the home but the new family moving into the home is not what i was asking about. i was asking about MILLIONS of children getting hold of toys that have been distributed by companies that don’t give a rats butt. it is easier for you to call and say something about the house not being cleansed of lead than it is for us to find out who to write call or email about these toys. big companies don’t listen to little consumers.

Would you ever consider being in a polygamous marriage?

And I’m not asking to poke fun or be caustic. I’m a Muslim and in our Sacred Law a man is allowed to marry up to 4 wives as long as certain prerequisites are fulfilled to assure fairness.

For Christians, consider this:

For example, Martin Luther, the founder of modern protestant Christianity once wrote, "I cannot condemn polygamy, for I cannot find a [clear] prohibitian against it in scripture…" [from Der Beichtrat" (or "The Confessional Advice")]… Some fifteen years earlier, in a letter to the Saxon Chancellor Gregor Brück, Luther stated that he could not "forbid a person to marry several wives, for it does not contradict Scripture."

"On February 14, 1650, the parliament at Nürnberg decreed that, because so many men were killed during the Thirty Years’ War, the churches for the following ten years could not admit any man under the age of 60 into a monastery. Priests and ministers not bound by any monastery were allowed to marry. Lastly, the decree stated that every man was allowed to marry up to ten women. The men were admonished to behave honorably, provide for their wives properly, and prevent animosity among them."

Furthermore, all of the Old Testament Prophets, for the most part, were polygamous… and in the New Testament, Paul writes that presits/bishops i.e. church leaders should marry "one" wife, but is silent on Christian men themselves… Jesus [saas] himself never prohibits it explicitly, in fact he even gives a parable using polygamous marriage in the story found in Matthew 9:1-12. Jesus’ parable allows polygamy between 1 man (the bridegroom) and 10 virgins (5 became his wives and slept with him)!

According to Father Eugene Hillman, ‘Nowhere in the New Testament is there any explicit commandment that marriage should be monogamous or any explicit commandment forbidding polygamy.’ [Polygamy Reconsidered, p. 140]

As for Atheists:

Would you practice polygamy if it were legal? After all it is the natural practice of most societies in the world. Monogamist-only cultures seem to be a minority.

According to the Ethnographic Atlas Codebook, of 1231 societies noted, 186 were monogamous. 453 had occasional polygyny, and 588 had more frequent polygyny. [Derived from George P. Murdock’s Ethnographic Atlas recording the marital composition of 1231 societies from 1960–1980].

It thus seems that it is a natural way for the human species.

There is also some biological imperitive for it… it assures, for example that the more affluent/intelligent/civilized will reproduce more… as those who have "succeeded" in the "survival of the fittest" sense will be the ones most likely to engage in the practice, and this is typically true in the animal world among species that engage in polygamous mating. -The man that has the money, success, looks, etc will be the one who can afford taking care of more than 1 wife and a large extended family…

Furthermore, women outnumber men in just about every country in the world, excepting some societies [such as China] that often abort female children due to some sense of "shame" denoted in the birth of a daughter. -But other than these areas, women outnumber men, in some cases considerably…

So the question to Atheist and Christian women is… would YOU engage in a polygynous relationship? If no, do you think there are women who can?

Why can KBR pay their employees 0,000 a year coming right from our tax money, which the Government has given them? What justifies such extravagant salaries?

Why don’t we just pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan once and for all? Why should we keep paying such a huge price for these unproductive unpopular wars? We have so many problems at home we can’t take care of because they’re draining all our resources by wasting so much tax money on those wars. We can’t even take care of ourselves here in the US and our deficit keeps getting huger. Foreign nations like China or Russia are thinking about the possibly of trading off their US Government bonds in exchange for more reliable foreign currencies because they feel the US will never be able to pay them back. Why are these incompetent Governments running America into the ground taking care of corporations in form of bail-outs, but leaving the people abandoned on the roadside?

For Republicans, who always like to see that the Law is being enforced, how can we keep funding the police and the prisons?

For Democrats, the budget is running lower each year to fund schools and universities and other educational institutions or activities. Where are we going to get the money from, when foreign banks decide it is simply too much and start fueling their money into a more reliable society (India, Russia, Brazil, China…?)? Actually by watching the news on American channels everything looks pretty normal. Because they’re not telling you we’re heading into disaster not to alarm you. But when you watch foreign news, you realize how bad the future looks for America. People are beginning to look at the US as a threat and a depressive factor for the world economy. Foreign investors are being scared away from this nation because its market is too shaky and illusory, and without them this economy cannot survive on its own.

Violence and unpopularity escalates against Americans. Not even the British respect Americans anymore. Maybe their Government, but not their citizens. It’s getting to the point of not even being able to visit London because of the hostilities towards Yankees (Americans).

As a true friend, I’m telling you wake up and pull out the troops NOW! It’s never too late to start anew, they say. Well in a few more months, it will be too late, unless you make the right choice. Call your Congressmen right away! Tell them you want the troops out and tax money diverted towards more important and crucial issues for America.
He is not my boy. I didn’t vote. Period. Stop acting so childish and be a man. Stand up for your country.
@virgod: you look tough or want to look tough, but you are not fighting the war. You’re probably sitting at a desk or taking care of your business without sweating or shedding a drop of blood.

Those values and freedoms that you so arrogantly boast of have been provided by brave soldiers. You and the cowards from KBR and other thief companies want to believe you’re on the side of those who are sacrificing themselves for America, but you’re just in for the money, you pieces of shit mercenaries! You make me want to puke. You don’t fight for ideals. You look at others fight to see how big your bank account can get. You are the lowest of the low.

It’s people like you that produce nothing and just capitalizes on other people’s sweat. You have the military industrial complex on your side, but bear in mind your days are numbered and many secrets will see the light. We will know everything about America once it is defeated.

Is the prison industry a means whereby incarcerated persons are seduced into the services of private corporations at a fraction of the cost of american labor sources?

What say you?
Ray Here: From approximately 7500 officially-sanctioned and documented interviews with prison inmates.
Robot ho: International Amnesty Figures.
After reflection and consideration of most answers, I urge all to do more research on this issue.
